Expert Panel to Discuss How New Media Is Changing the PR landscape

SALT LAKE CITY, Jan. 10, 2008 – The Utah Technology Council (UTC) members and public relations professionals are invited to the annual PR breakfast seminar “New Media in Public Relations: The Fundamentals and Forecast for 2008” on Jan. 17 from 7:30 - 9:30 a.m. at the University of Phoenix, 5373 Green Street, Murray. Malcolm Atherton of Business Wire will moderate a panel consisting of Brad Baldwin of Rocky Mountain Voices and Dean Taylor of COMPLETExRM. The panelists will discuss how new media is changing the public relations landscape. Visit UTC’s Web site at http://www.utahtechcouncil.org/events/20080117.htm to register.

Atherton, Baldwin and Taylor will provide real-world examples of how companies have used new media vehicles, such as blogs, podcasts, video and social networking to generate buzz about companies, products or initiatives.

“PR is no longer about delivering messages to target audiences,” said Cheryl Snapp Conner, managing partner at SnappConner PR and chair of the UTC Communications Committee. “Instead, public relations is a continual conversation between the organization, customers, stakeholders, the media and other individuals. With new media on the Internet and in social networking sites, interactions with these groups are accelerated, providing a great opportunity for companies to thrive.”

The annual UTC PR breakfast is the largest gathering of public relations professionals in technology.
