Upcoming UTC Workshop to Focus on Sterilization

SALT LAKE CITY , UTAH – Aug 8, 2007 On August 15, the Utah Technology Council will hold a Sterilization breakfast hosted by Nelson Laboratories, at 6280 South Redwood Road, Salt Lake City, from 7:30 am to 9:30 am. This event will be an informal open discussion on the following topics presented by Microbiologist, Dan Floyd, of Nelson Labs: Ethylene Oxide Sterilization, Biological Indicator's (BI's), Comparative Resistance, Sterilization Validations, Process Challenge Devices (PCD's). A question-and-answer session and an optional tour of Nelson Laboratories will follow the presentation.

Dan Floyd is the Sterilization Section Leader at Nelson Laboratories, Inc.
For the last 14 years, Dan has specialized in all aspects of EO validations, including cycle development, D-value determinations, bioburden resistance studies, biological indicator sterility testing, BI incubation reduction studies, comparative resistance testing, PCD development and temperature and humidity distribution studies. Dan has performed onsite validations of sterilizers domestically and abroad both at contract sterilization facilities as well as for customers sterilizing product in house.

Mr. Floyd received his B.S. in microbiology and a minor in chemistry from BrighamYoungUniversity where he attended on a Presidential scholarship. He has been with Nelson Laboratories, Inc. since 1992. Following graduation he became a registered microbiologist with the National Registry of Microbiology.

This new Workshop series hosted by UTC will provide Life Science companies the opportunity to build the Life Science community in Utah. It will also give attendees the opportunity to learn about host companies and to observe skills specific to the host company. This is the second event in the Life Science Workshop series.
