Event to Focus On Outside Funding Groups’ Interest in Utah Technology Companies
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – June 4, 2007 – Industry experts and venture capitalists will discuss the trend of out-of-state funding groups looking to Utah for development opportunities at an industry breakfast hosted by the Utah Technology Council (UTC) on Wednesday, June 13, 2007, at 7:30 a.m. at UVSC’s Sorenson Student Center, Centre Stage, in Orem.. The panel discussion, entitled “An Outside Look on Venture Funding,” will involve a number of industry experts including Darlene Collins, Managing Director of Psilos; Phil Reed, General Partner of Highway 12 Ventures; and Ido Sarig, Venture Partner of Thomas Weisel Venture Partners. UTC trustee Todd Stevens, managing director of Wasatch Venture fund, will moderate the discussion. “Utah has experienced tremendous growth in the technology sector due, in no small part, to outside investors,” said UTC President and CEO Richard Nelson. “This is a wonderful opportunity to hear from those investors and determine their concerns, so we can ensure continued development in the region.” Collins operates out of Santa Fe, New Mexico, where she leverages over 20 year’ health care experience and a national network of government and industry relationships in support of Psilos' investment philosophy. Reed of Highway 12 Ventures in Boise, Idaho, has more than 30 years of experience in founding and building companies such as SkyStar Aircraft Corporation and Duckets Corporation. Sarig of Thomas Weisel Venture Partners in Palo Alto, California, focuses on enterprise and infrastructure software and is responsible for identifying new investment opportunities in those areas.
