UTC Announces 5 New Trustees at Annual Members’ Meeting

SALT LAKE CITY, May 14, 2007 – The Utah Technology Council (UTC) announced five new members of its Board of Trustees at its recent Annual Members’ Meeting.

New trustee appointments include the following: Mark Bonham, Partner, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, Ron Heinz , Managing Director of Canopy Ventures, David Jolley, Managing Partner, Ernst & Young, Jason Perry, Executive Director, Governor's Office of Economic Development, Ned Weinshenker, Vice President for Strategic Ventures and Economic Development, Utah State University.

“Each of these new trustees has worked to further the technology community in Utah,” says Richard R. Nelson, President and CEO of UTC. “All bring a unique perspective to our board and as such will be a valuable resource to UTC as we continue to grow the industry.”

In addition, Trustee Gary Goodrich, president and CEO of Orem-based ProPay USA, Inc., has been invited to participate as a member of the UTC Executive Committee.

Mark Bonham

Mark Bonham is a partner in the Salt Lake City office of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati. He formerly served on the Recruiting and Compensation Committees and currently serves on the Opinion and Knowledge Management Committees. Mr. Bonham has participated in more than 75 merger and acquisition transactions and public offerings valued at an aggregate of more than $10 billion. In addition to his Utah-based practice, Mr. Bonham continues to represent a number of clients in Silicon Valley. He received a J.D. from Harvard Law School, and a B.A. in Economics from Brigham Young University.
Ron Heinz
As Managing Director, Ron Heinz oversees corporate investments and strategic direction for Canopy Ventures. With more than two decades in the technology business, Mr. Heinz was the CEO of Helius, Inc., a Canopy portfolio company prior to assuming his current role. From 2000 to 2003, Ron was the CEO of Phobos Corporation, a Utah-based technology company that was acquired by SonicWALL of Sunnyvale, California (SNWL). He received a Bachelor of Science in finance degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and an MBA in finance from American University.
David Jolley
David Jolley is the Office Managing Partner for the Ernst & Young Salt Lake City practice. He has spent the past 17 years providing business advisory services to high growth companies in a variety of industries including biotechnology, health care and services organizations, manufacturing, software/technology, and transportation. Mr. Jolley also has significant experience in mergers and acquisitions, roll-ups, strategic alliance assessments and structures, and other unique transactions. Mr. Jolley earned his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Brigham Young University and an MBA from the University of Utah.
Jason P. Perry
Jason P. Perry is the Executive Director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, which oversees economic development in the state of Utah, the Office of Tourism and the Utah Film Commission. Prior to GOED, Mr. Perry was Deputy Director of the Utah Department of Commerce. Jason administered human resources functions for the 250-person department as well as recommendations, reports, and proposals before the Utah State Legislature. Mr. Perry graduated from the University of Utah, College of Law with a J.D. Degree and has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Brigham Young University
Ned M. Weinshenker
Ned M. Weinshenker, Ph.D. is Vice President for Strategic Ventures and Economic Development at Utah State University where he is responsible for the Technology Commercialization Office, the Innovation Campus and the Utah Science, Technology and Research (USTAR) Initiative. Dr. Weinshenker has over 35 years of business, education and scientific expertise. Dr. Weinshenker received a B.S. degree at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and was a NIH Postdoctoral Fellow at HarvardUniversity under Nobel Laureate E.J. Corey.
