Salt Lake City , UT – March 12, 2007 – The Utah Technology Council announces the appointment of Steven L. Reed as Life Science Director. In his new position, Mr. Reed will take the lead in expanding the life science community’s ability to accelerate their success through participation in UTC events that will help develop management talent and sharpen professional skills, form closer relationships with industry and community leaders and gain access to capital. In addition, he will work to provide members with increased purchasing power through affinity programs. “We are enthused to welcome Steve to UTC and to have him playing such a significant role on behalf of our state’s life science industry,” said Richard Nelson, president and CEO of UTC. “Of the many candidates we evaluated for this essential executive position, Steve’s qualifications, energy and passion made him the clear choice.” Mr. Reed brings a strong background of business development and entrepreneurial experience in life science products and services. He was formerly with Harlan, Sprague, Dawley, Inc. where he directed promotion and sales of biological models and contract services to the life science community, including a working relationship with Biocom – the largest regional life science association in the world – and the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science. Other previous experience includes marketing and sales management responsibilities for Prosci, Inc., a privately-held biotechnology company. “It is a tremendous honor for me to get involved in Utah’s vibrant, growing life science industry,” said Reed. “My primary objective is to develop the Utah scientific community through cohesion and awareness. I look forward to working alongside key life science leaders, USTAR and the Utah Fund of Funds in an effort to build critical mass, foster collaboration, and facilitate the efforts of the Utah scientific industry to accelerate its stature and influence in the U.S. and throughout the world.” Mr. Reed will play an important leadership role in accomplishing the UTC’s life science objectives particularly through facilitating the support and commitment of the UTC Life Science Advisory Council. “This advisory council provides valuable direction on Utah life science community issues,” said Nelson. The UTC Life Science Advisory Council is composed of some of the state’s most prominent life science leaders in the fields of research, business, finance, and law.
