SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Oct. 5, 2004 – Space is filling quickly for the Sixth Annual Utah Information Technology Association’s (UITA) “Hall of Fame” Celebration. The event will be held at the downtown Marriott in Salt Lake City on Wednesday, October 20, 2004. The celebration will honor a technology leader whose innovations have made significant advancements to the IT industry: Kevin B. Rollins, President and CEO of Dell, Inc. More than 450 individuals have already registered for the event, which is expected to sell out quickly. “The Sixth Annual ‘Hall of Fame’ will be UITA’s second major event this year, and like the earlier Clayton Christensen event, we expect this to be a sellout,” said Richard R. Nelson, president and chief executive officer of UITA. “We are particularly pleased to honor Kevin Rollins as an individual who continues to exemplify the innovative thinking and achievements that have emerged from Utah’s high-tech environment and are truly changing our world.” The “Hall of Fame” event is the premier recognition evening for the Utah IT industry. UITA honors individuals with Utah ties who have made key contributions to the IT industry through technology, innovation and/or business. These individuals’ groundbreaking contributions have created jobs, commercialized technology, improved productivity and stimulated the nation’s growth and development. This year’s honoree and keynote speaker, Kevin Rollins, will be joining prior “Hall of Fame” honorees Shane Robison of Hewlett-Packard; Alan Kay, of Viewpoints Research Institute; David Bailey of Iomega; Nolan Bushnell, the “Father of Video Games;” Dr. Jim Clark, founder of Netscape Communications Corporation; Stephen Aldous, Spencer Kirk and David Spafford of Megahertz Corporation; Dr. Edwin Catmull of Pixar Animation Studios; Dr. Thomas Stockham, the “Father of Digital Recording; John Warnock of Adobe; Bruce Bastian of WordPerfect; David Evans and Ivan Sutherland of Evans & Sutherland; Ray Noorda of Novell; Alan Ashton, WordPerfect; and” and Philo Farnsworth, the “Father of Television.” Before becoming president and CEO of Dell in July 2004, Kevin Rollins served as vice chairman of Dell, and prior to that, was president of Dell Americas, managing all company operations in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Latin America. During his tenure at Dell, the company has seen its most dramatic growth, with revenues increasing from $5 billion in 1996 to $43.5 billion in the four quarters prior to July 1, 2004. Kevin Rollins continues to have strong Utah ties, having earned his master's degree in business administration and bachelor's degrees from Brigham Young University. He remains an active supporter of the school. Rollins serves on the University's President's Leadership Council and the Marriott School National Advisory Council, where he founded and continues to sponsor the Rollins Center for e-Business. UITA’s Sixth Annual “Hall of Fame” will begin with a networking reception at 6 p.m. on October 20 at the downtown Marriott. The cost of the black tie event is $150 for UITA members and guests and $200 for non-UITA members and guests. Proceeds from the dinner will help foster the growth of Utah’s high-tech community.
